Beginner Wheel Throwing Class

One price includes everything you need to participate in the course and make your own finished pieces.

You will be able to keep up to 4 handmade pieces at the end of your classes.

  • Wheel Throwing

    Learn how to prepare clay, center it on the wheel, pull basic forms, and take pieces off the wheel. You will also learn how to recycle clay and set up a home studio.

  • Trimming

    Learn how to carve, trim, and apply texture to your pieces on the wheel. You will also learn about different carving tools and techniques to create unique finishes for your artwork.

  • Glazing & Firing

    Glaze your favorite pieces and Ceramic Planet will fire them at the studio. You will also learn about glazing techniques and how to use a kiln for your future projects.

Ceramic Planet will help you glaze and fire your pieces. We have a range of glaze combinations you can try. Limit 4 pieces per course.

Equipment

We use a white stoneware "You Betcha Mix" from Rovin Ceramics. Classes are taught on Creative Industries Clay Boss wheels. We use one Amaco brush-on glazes which are designed to be food, microwave, and dishwasher safe.*

*Items from the studio should be inspected before use with food. Cracks and pitting will void food safety. Handwashing is recommended for longevity.

How do I find the studio?

We are off of Ford and Middlebelt Rd. 30937 Ford Rd, Garden City

The studio is directly across from a large "Lemon Law" sign.

The building s the Norris Service Group Building, which Ceramic Planet rents out for classes.

Will I make my own pieces?

Yes, this course includes making 3 finished pieces in total.

When can I pick up my pieces?

Expect 2-3 weeks from the final class for your pieces to be ready for pickup. You will be contacted via email.

If you're unable to come to the studio to pick them up, send an email and we will have them shipped to you for a reasonable fee.

What should be worn to class?

Plan to wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. We do have aprons to wear, but you may want to bring an oversized T-shirt to wear over your clothing. Wear closed toed shoes. Take off all rings and wrist jewelry prior to starting.

What do I need to bring to class?

Everything will be provided by the studio for your lessons. Just bring yourself!

Are there any extra costs associated with the class?

No, everything is covered with one price, including equipment, materials, and instruction.

The only possible extra fee is having your finished pieces shipped back to you. In that case, we offer a reasonable shipping & handling fee.
